100 months and counting

Just found out about this new site from the nef’s mailing list. 100 months doesn’t have much content on it yet, except a big banner counting down to a theoretical ‘tipping point’ when climate change starts going pear shaped. I think the intention is to email out things we can all be doing to help prevent that.

From today, Friday 1 August 2008,
We may only have one hundred months before the earth’s climate system could ‘tip’
One hundred months to deliver committed action.
One hundred months and counting…
Make every month count.
Sign-up for action: Free text ‘counting’ and your email address to 80800.

The clock is ticking.
Thank you.

The site will include regular suggestions for what individuals and groups can do to take action, and links to the wide range of organisations supporting the focus on the 100 months countdown.

It all sounds a bit Day After Tomorrow, but their efforts should be applauded. As if it’ll make any difference; this will just preach to the converted, who can only do so much anyway.

The nef site has a link to a PDF that goes into a bit more detail of how they’ve estimated that timescale, if you’re interested.
